NO-MAKEUP MAKEUP ROUTINE

Hello July! I don’t know about you, but with quarantining these last few months I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for summer to be here. The sunny days and blue skies make these uncertain days feel a whole lot better. With summer comes major heat and humidity here in the Midwest so this is about the time of year where I need to simplify my makeup routine to keep my skin looking fresh! On most summer days when I know I will be outside, I opt in for my no-makeup makeup routine. What I mean by “no-makeup makeup” is that it’s a routine that I use to keep myself looking glowy and put together without the typical amount of makeup I use. Simplifying is KEY! Today, I am going to walk you through my summer no-makeup makeup routine and share a little bit about the products I use and why.

HOW TO CREATE A NO-MAKEUP MAKEUP ROUTINE

START AT THE BASE

Hydration is so important when it comes to applying makeup in the summer to make sure everything blends smoothly. I apply my favorite moisturizer and sunscreen to start with a fresh base and protect from the sun, then sometimes I will add my go-to drugstore primer to create a smooth surface! Remember, less is more when it comes to face makeup in these hot temps so I take about half a pump of my It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation on my buffing brush to even out my skin tone and give me light-medium coverage. (I have a whole post talking about my favorite foundations for summer if you are looking for a new one!) Then I set my oily spots (forehead, upper lip, around the nose, and mouth) with a lightweight setting powder to help my makeup last all day!

BRONZE + GLOW

You know I love my Becca Bronzer so this is my favorite part! It has the perfect amount of bronze and a hint of shimmer to make your skin look like it’s glowing from within. I also love this drugstore bronzer if you are looking for something more affordable. I always grab my big fluffy brush to create an all over bronze look to make it seem like I just stepped off the beach. I usually use the “3” motion when it comes to applying my bronzer. Think of the top of the 3 as your hairline/top of forehead, then the middle part is your cheek, and the bottom is your jawline! This motion keeps you looking natural and enhances your features.

ADD THE KISS OF SUN

Now that we are all bronzed up, it’s time to add a kiss of the sun! How do we do that without spending time outside you ask? Blush! It is the best kept secret when it comes to creating that no-makeup makeup look because it adds back in the natural pinks of your skin. Think about the areas you tend to get the most sun if you were to be outside in the sun for a bit too long. Most likely you would see hits of pink in the upper forehead/hairline area, apples of your cheeks, and the tip of your nose! Using a small fluffy brush, I tap it into my MAC blush to dust a rosey blush over these areas to create a sun kissed look!

SET THE BROWS

I am a big fan in keeping my brows natural in the summer time so I usually just put on a clear brow gel to hold my hairs in place throughout the day! If you are someone who can’t leave the house without filling in the brows, the LA Girl Brow Pencil in the shade brunette is my go to and SO cheap.

LASH TIME

On most days, I like to to grab my eyelash curler and apply one light coat of my favorite drug store mascara to bring a little life to my eyes. If I am heading to the pool, I usually just curl my lashes and leave the mascara behind to keep them natural and fresh! You can always grab a waterproof mascara if you need a little something.

DON’T FORGET THE LIPS

Lips are so important to be protected from the sun! I am newly obsessed with this Lip Therapy from Vaseline that I picked up at the drugstore. It keeps them so hydrated and plump! I usually keep one in my purse and one in my pool/beach bag so I don’t ever have to live without it.

I hope this was helpful for those who are looking to simplify their makeup routine this summer! You can definitely switch out these products for what you already have in your makeup bag but if you are looking for new recommendations, I’ve linked everything to this post! Just remember, less is more, hydrate as much as you can, and don’t overthink it. You are beautiful with or without makeup!
